Postgraduate community

Although you will be studying from a distance, you will be very much a part of one of the world’s leading universities.

Self-study is central to undertaking distance learning, but our programme is designed to promote interaction. So wherever you are studying from your learning experience will be an enriching, enjoyable and successful one. In addition to our programme’s own study community and active communication forums, there are various other opportunities to get involved and keep in touch outside of the programme itself.

Our School

The School of History, Classics and Archaeology is home to a large community of postgraduate historians undertaking both taught and research degrees, many of whom are also actively involved in our research groups and research centres. Some of our research groups and centres sit within the discipline of History, others bring together researchers from across the School.

Societies

The History Society is a large and active group. It hosts internationally renowned lecturers, provides study advice and publishes the student-run award-winning journal Retrospect.

You’ll automatically become a member of Edinburgh University’s Student’s Association.

Alumni

Ultimately you will also become a valued member of our Alumni which has clubs and networks in the UK and across the world. By joining an Alumni Network you will be able to strengthen ties with individuals and the University, both socially and professionally.
