Royal Society of Edinburgh Fellowship for History Professor
Professor Alvin Jackson, Richard Lodge Professor of History, has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
The School was delighted to see that Professor Alvin Jackson has been announced as a new Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Alvin is one of five Fellows elected from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Edinburgh.
Fellows of the Society are leading thinkers and experts from Scotland and around the world, whose work has a significant impact on the nation and who have undergone a rigorous assessment of their achievements, professional standing and the contribution they and their work make to wider society.
Alvin said, ‘It’s a great honour to have been elected to Scotland’s national academy, with its 240 year-old traditions both of learning as well as its communication and application. It’s also a great privilege to be helping to continue the School’s distinguished tradition of engagement with the RSE and its work’.
Fellows, who give their time freely, play a fundamental role in enabling the RSE to deliver its mission of ‘Knowledge Made Useful’ and contribute to the cultural, economic and social well-being of Scotland and the wider world. Alvin is also an honorary Member of the Royal Irish Academy as well as a Member of the Academia Europaea.
