Play based on academic's research

A play drawing on the research of Dr Wendy Ugolini, Senior Lecturer in the School of History, Classics & Archaeology, transfers to Milan following a Scottish tour. (Published 2 Nov 2016)

A Bench on the Road

A Bench on the Road, by Italian dramatist Laura Pasetti, addresses Italian Scottish female migration between 1850 and 1950, and was informed by the oral history research of Dr Ugolini archived in the School of Scottish Studies, as well as the work of other academics. The play analyses a whole range of issues arising from the migration of 25 million Italians between political unification and the post WWII economic boom.

Commissioned by the Italo-Scottish Research Cluster at the University of Edinburgh, and funded by Creative Scotland, the play recently toured Scotland. At its final performance, in Edinburgh in October at Assembly Roxy, Dr Ugolini took part in a Q & A session with the audience.

A Bench on the Road moves to Milan in

January where it will play at Piccolo Teatro. You can find out more about the work at this website
