A PhD student has appeared on an Irish principal radio station discussing Irish music during the American Civil War. (Published 27 January 2016)

Second year History PhD student Catherine Bateson appeared an Ireland's RTÉ Radio 1 'The History Show' on Sunday 24 January.

Catherine was speaking as part of a two-part series on Irish music produced during the American Civil War, which forms the foundation of her doctoral research. Contributing to the second programme, Catherine was interviewed by Irish broadcast historian Myles Dungan about her research on the songwriter Harry Macarthy and his Confederate anthem 'The Bonnie Blue Flag', set to a traditional Irish tune that became very popular in mid-nineteenth century American society.
