Dr Manuel Fernández-Götz wins RSE Thomas Reid Medal
The School of History, Classics and Archaeology is delighted to congratulate Dr Manuel Fernández-Götz, Reader in Archaeology, on winning the Royal Society of Edinburgh’s Thomas Reid Medal 2021 (Early-Career Prize in Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences).
Congratulations go to Dr Manuel Fernández-Götz, Reader in Archaeology, on being awarded the prestigious Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE) Thomas Reid Medal 2021 (Early-Career Prize in Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences).
The Thomas Reid Medal is awarded in most years by the RSE to one outstanding researcher with between two and ten years' postdoctoral experience for work in the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. Thomas Reid was an 18th century philosopher who played an important role in the Scottish Enlightenment.
Dr Fernández-Götz has been awarded the prize in recognition of his “position as a leading Early Career researcher on diverse aspects of the European Iron Age. His contributions have provided markedly fresh thinking in impressive monographs, edited collections, and papers in highly regarded journals”.
Dr Fernández-Götz joined the School in 2013 as a Chancellor’s Fellow, and is currently Head of Archaeology. He was awarded a Philip Leverhulme Prize in 2016. His research interests include the origins of urbanisation in temperate Europe, the archaeology of migrations, and conflict archaeology.
