The School was delighted to learn that first-year history PhD student James Bright has been awarded a British Association for Irish Studies bursary. James received his bursary at a ceremony on 16th May at the Embassy of Ireland in London.
James plans to use the bursary to fund a research trip to Belfast in the next academic year as part of his PhD ‘Loyalty in Captivity: Ideas and Identity among Ulster Loyalist paramilitary prisoners, 1968-1998’.
"My aim is to return to Belfast next year to conduct interviews and continue my survey of the primary literature in archives there"’ said James. "I am honoured to have received this award from the British Association for Irish Studies, which will greatly help me in furthering my research goals. The prizegiving ceremony at the Embassy of Ireland was an excellent event that provided great networking opportunities."
