Events which have already taken place within the School of History, Classics and Archaeology in 2019.
The second in a series of three conferences aims to explore how public performances of classicising learning (however defined in each culture) influenced and served imperial or state power in premodern political systems across Eurasia and North Africa.

A Thanksgiving lecture in celebration of Peter Fosl's newly published book with Edinburgh University Press, 'Hume's Scepticism: Pyrrhonian and Academic'.
Professor Simon Heffer will give a lecture as part of the programme for the Political History Research Group on 'Asquith, Lloyd George and the coup of 1916’.

As part of the research project The Matter of Slavery in Scotland, Professor Beverly Lemire will present the lecture 'Material technologies of empire: tobacco, textiles and race in everyday Scottish life' on 26 April, 2019.

Professor Jennifer Morgan will deliver the 2019 Lecture in the History of Slavery for the Edinburgh Centre for Global History, 'Reckoning with slavery: kinship and capitalism in the early Black Atlantic' on 25 April, 2019.

A workshop with Professor Jennifer Morgan on the intertwined themes of slavery, gender and capitalism in the early modern world, will take place on 25 April, 2019.
