Welcome Week 2021
Find out about the School events taking place in Welcome Week and the steps you need to take as a new student.
What happens during Welcome Week?
Welcome Week is a programme of events for new students which takes place the week before teaching commences. It marks the start of your time at Edinburgh; you will register for your courses, attend introductory sessions, explore the University and have the chance to meet fellow students. This year, the majority of our Welcome Week activities will be delivered virtually.
Welcome Week and School induction takes place between 12-16 September 2022.
Please see the full programme for details - events are also included in the main University Welcome Week programme and app (see below).
If you have any questions at any time before you arrive, please contact us. We will be happy to resolve your query if we can or, if we can't help directly, to point you to the person who can.

The first step in Welcome Week - Start your studies!
The process by which you will be formally admitted to the University of Edinburgh is called matriculation.
Matriculation is a three-part process, including:
- registration - completing online registration, paying your tuition fees and collecting your student card
- confirm your attendance
- fulfilling any admission criteria detailed in your offer.
School sessions will take place, throughout the week and include welcome talks from some key staff for Archaeology, Classics and History.
The next step - Attend as many Welcome Week events (School and University) as you can!
School welcome sessions for new students in the Graduate School of History, Classics and Archaeology (both taught and research) begin on Monday 12 September. The programme is included above.
