Choose your courses (taught programmes)

You can find out what courses are available now using our online tool, Path. You must meet with your Personal Tutor in Welcome Week to choose your courses.

Find out what courses are available

You can start to think about your course choice preferences now.

Please, however, note that you will not need to make any final decisions about courses until you arrive and meet with your Personal Tutor in Welcome Week.

View your course options online

The University provides a visual course selection and programme builder tool called Path.

You will be able to log in via MyEd. Use Path to look at your degree pathway, review outside course choices, find out more information about courses and generate a provisional timetable.

Make sure that you have your log in details ready (the ones you use to sign into Your University Login and MyEd) - you'll need them to access Path!

Course timetables

You will also need to check the timetable for courses you want to take - you can check the times courses are scheduled for in Path, and can use the tool to prepare a provisional timetable.

Some programmes have fixed courses. If this applies to you, you won’t need to tell us about your courses, but you still need to have a meeting with your Personal Tutor.

Pre-course enrolment

You will be offered the opportunity to select your course preferences using our online Course Choice Preference form. Details on how to select your course preferences will be sent to you via e-mail towards the end of the summer.  The deadline for indicating your course prferences is 31st August 2020. Please note: Courses will not be confirmed until after you have had your online meeting met with your Personal Tutor during Welcome Week. Once you are fully enrolled on your courses you will have access the relevant course materials in LEARN.

Meet your Personal Tutor

Taught MSc students are assigned a Personal Tutor, whose role includes providing you with academic and pastoral guidance.

You should make an appointment to meet your Personal Tutor during Welcome Week to agree your course choices and discuss any other matters of concern.  Your Personal Tutor will contact you to advise how you should sign up for an online appointment.

Find out who your Personal Tutor is

Log in to your MyEd account to find out who your Personal Tutor is; this information will be added over the coming weeks and will be available to you by the beginning of Welcome Week. Don't worry if it is not there yet.

Contact your Personal Tutor

You will have at least one individual meeting with your Personal Tutor per semester, and another during the dissertation stage.

The semester one individual meeting will take place during Welcome Week and for the 2020/21 intake, and will be held online. Your Personal Tutor may send a choice of appointment times for you to select one or may instead contact you directly via your student email. You should contact your Personal Tutor at the beginning of Semesters 2 and ‘3’ to sign up for further meetings at a mutually convenient time.

Group meetings will take place during semester one and two and you will be notified about these meetings once these have been arranged.

More information on the Personal Tutoring system and choosing your courses will be available in your online Programme Handbook.
