The College Postgraduate Research Student Office is holding online information sessions about AHRC PhD funding, offered by the Scottish Graduate School for Arts and Humanities, for the 2023/24 academic year. This is an opportunity to hear about the funding on offer, how to apply to the University for a funding nomination, what information is required in the funding application and an opportunity to ask us questions. The session is repeated over the summer, so please join us for the session date which suits you best.

The information below is for 2022-23 entry for which the deadlines have now passed. We expect the deadlines for 2023-24 entry to be similar. Please check this page for updates in Autumn 2022.
The University of Edinburgh is part of a consortium of ten Higher Education institutions which has been awarded funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) to support postgraduate doctoral studentships and training in the Arts and Humanities in Scotland.
Under the Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) scheme, the consortium - comprised of; Universities of Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Highlands & Islands, St Andrews, Stirling, Strathclyde, Glasgow School of Art and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland - will consider applications for doctoral studentship awards in the majority of Arts and Humanities subjects. The consortium is organised through the Scottish Graduate School for Arts and Humanities (SGSAH).
The School of History, Classics and Archaeology will consider applications for awards in the subject areas of History, Classics and Archaeology for entry in session 2022-23.

The Dean will be hosting an information session for prospective applicants/current students, about the SGSAH Open Studentship Competition on 11 November 2021 at 10:00 GMT via Blackboard Collaborate using the link below.
If you intend to apply for an AHRC Scholarship, please email us in the first instance email@example.com, to register your interest.
To be considered, you must submit both an application for PhD study and an SGSAH Scholarship Application form.
Applications for PhD study: Your completed PhD study application must be submitted through the University’s online application system by Wednesday 1st December 2021, 23:59 GMT, in order to ensure that your PhD application is processed in time for consideration within a very tight selection timescale. You do not need to have an offer of a study place by 1st December, you must simply have submitted your completed study application. This means that all your supporting documentation (research proposal of around 1,000 words, academic references, copies of qualifications/transcripts) must, where available, also be uploaded. Please liaise closely with your referee to ensure they supply the required reference within five working days of your submission. Incomplete applications will not be considered by the scholarships panel.
If a degree result or test of English competency is pending we can consider your application and, where appropriate, make you an offer conditional upon supplying these at a later date.
Applications for AHRC Scholarship: You may apply for the AHRC scholarship before receiving a decision on your application for a PhD place, but if you do not receive an offer of a place, your application cannot proceed.
Eligible candidates should complete the SGSAH Doctoral Training Partnership Studentship nomination application form for 2022-23, and submit this by email to the Graduate School Office (firstname.lastname@example.org) by no later than Wednesday 8th December 2021, 23:59 GMT.
PLEASE NOTE: When completing the 'Nominating Member of Staff' section of your AHRC application, please provide the name of the Graduate Officer of the PhD programme you apply for.

Applications which do not meet the deadlines stated above cannot be considered.
