Congratulations go to Dr Mirko Canevaro, Chancellor’s Fellow in Classics, on winning the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE) Thomas Reid Medal 2017, with the award of the Early-Career Prize in Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.

Thomas Reid was an 18th century philosopher who played an important role in the Scottish Enlightenment.

Dr Canevaro has been awarded the prize 'in recognition of his outstanding research work in ancient Greek politics and law', and will be presented with the medal in a ceremony on the 11th of December 2017 at the Royal Society of Edinburgh.

Dr Canevaro joined the School in 2013 as a Chancellor’s Fellow, and will become a Reader in Greek History in August 2017. He was awarded a Philip Leverhulme Prize in 2015. His research interests include the political and legal history of Athens and the Greek city states, Greek political thought and the concept of honour in Greek thought and practice.
