Student Support Officer

Job Description

The main purpose of this job is to :

  • deliver support to the School’s academic administration and, in particular, for Direction of Studies with the key aim of reducing the administrative burden of Directors of Studies, and to support undergraduate students (directees, international students and students studying abroad);
  • assist in administering course and curricula changes and co-ordinating various applicant and Freshers events;
  • contribute to the ongoing development of this support service, and to the formulation and establishment of operations and procedures to make the role effective, under the direction of the School Head of Student Administration.

Key Duties

The School's Student Support Office can assist undergraduate students with the following:  

  • Assistance with changing courses, during first two weeks of the semester
  • Enrolment on to courses, and Confirmation of Student Attendance
  • Production of letters confirming student status, or non-academic references
  • Advice on degree transfers, either within School or to other subjects
  • Advice on applying for authorised interruption of study
  • Advice on applying for coursework extensions when ill
  • Confidential advice about study options when ill health continues
  • Collection and collation of 'special circumstances' which affect academic performance, for reporting to exam boards
  • Queries about mandatory requirements of degree programmes
  • Making appointments with Directors of Studies
