Abstracts accepted for RCN Conference 2019
Nursing Studies PhD students Azwa Shamsuddin and Gearóid Brennan have had abstracts accepted for this year's RCN International Nursing Research Conference 2019. The over-arching theme of this year's conference is Impact.
We are very proud of both students who will be sharing their abstracts at The RCN International Nursing Research Conference 2019 on Tuesday 3 – Thursday 5 September at Sheffield Hallam University.
The over-arching theme of this year's conference is Impact, it is open to anyone interested in nursing and research. It would be of particular interest to nurses, and colleagues in related disciplines, involved in the development and use of knowledge that impacts on nursing practice or the context in which nurses’ practice.
Gearóid Brennan - PhD student
"My Paper is presenting some findings of My PhD study. The paper will focus on presenting data which shows how organisation and structural issues impact on mental health nurses' ability to provide quality physical healthcare to patients with mental health issues such as schizophrenia and bipolar effective disorder"
Azwa Shamsuddin - PhD student
"I am excited to attend the conference, as it is the largest nursing conference in the UK. This will provide a valuable networking opportunity, which is important to me as an early career nurse researcher. Additionally, I look forward to hearing thoughts on my work as esteemed scholars in workforce issues are expected to be at the conference. I feel humbled to be accepted to present at this conference and hope for this to be a first step towards my future career as a nurse researcher in the UK."
The role of empowerment in reconstructing nurses' professional identity to achieve research utilization: A grounded theory study: "My study illuminates the link between empowerment and nurses’ research utilization through reconstructing nurses’ understanding of their own professional identity. This is achieved through my theoretical model that illustrates five main categories that empower nurses structurally as well as psychologically in affecting their understanding of nursing’s professional identity: integrating research into the nursing role; keeping researchers in practice; building relationships; shifting culture; and impactful opinion leaders."
