Digital Behavioural Analysis

Behavioural analysis, known colloquially as profiling, has little to do with the pseudoscientific (but entertaining) depictions in television and films. Digital behavioral analysis applies psychology to the field of policing, focusing on identifying, investigating, and deterring criminal behavior through evidence-based, empirical practices involving digital technology. This presentation will provide a brief history of profiling, as well as novel, current research and its direct applications with current case examples. Areas covered will be law enforcement interactions with individuals with SMI, social media risk assessments, insider threat identification and deterrence, and ideographic profiling in criminal casework. Additionally, the application of the psychology of the victim and how that is exploited by online offenders will be examined.
