The School of Health in Social Science is located in the Old Medical School, designed by Sir Robert Rowand Anderson, on the south side of the city centre. It forms a magnificent Quadrangle adjoining the University’s McEwan Hall and is entered through Doorway 6 in the north-west corner of the quad.

The School reception is located on the first floor in the Student Support office, room 1.7, next to the lift.
By Train
Edinburgh Waverley Train Station is served by rail services to Scotland and the rest of the UK. Getting to us from Waverley station is a 15 minute walk, 5 minutes by bike or 10 minutes on a bus.
By foot
Our School is approximately a fifteen minute to walk from Edinburgh Waverley Train Station. To plan a walking journey, you can use the Walkit.com journey planner.

By bike
There is a network of on and off-road cycle routes in Edinburgh and our school is within a five-minute cycle ride of Edinburgh Waverley Train Station.

We have bike stands available in the quad and the nearby Central Area which can accommodate 900 bikes.

By bus
Buses from all over the city travel to and near our building. To plan your route you can use Lothian buses online journey planner:
Or get advice and pick up timetables from their Travelshop in the city centre at Waverley Bridge.
You can pay by cash or contactless payment.
Some of the popular buses that stop close by include the: 23, 27, 35 and 45 (Teviot Place) and 41, 42 (on Buccleuch Street)

By Car
We are located on the south side of the city centre where traffic congestion can be a problem, and parking is strictly controlled.
There are a number of University car parks located in the Central Area and near the School and some parking meter spaces are available near Buccleuch Place.
University car parks are for the use of permit holders only and are subject to the University’s Parking Regulations. This is managed by the University Transport and Parking Office.

Accessibility
We have a lift, teaching rooms, a reception, student support offices, toilets and a social space which are accessible. Unfortunately, not every room in the School is fully accessible, some staff offices and meeting rooms do have steps to access them. We have accessible rooms and toilets on the ground floor and we have a lift to all of the upper levels in the School.
