Codes of Practice and Guidance

Information on the Radiation Protection Unit's Codes of Practice and accompanying guidance notes.

Codes of Practice

The Radiation Protection unit produces Codes of Practice to provide guidance on the University's radiation protection arrangements. These Codes of Practice must be complied with either in the manner stated, or in some other manner that ensures that an equivalent level of safety and health control is met. Should you choose an alternative method you may be called upon to justify your actions and prove that such action has resulted in an equivalent level of risk control.

The Codes of Practice are divided into two cateogories:

  • Ionising Radiation (numbered 000 series)
  • Non-Ionising Radiation (CoP101)

Further Codes of Practice will be published as appropriate.

Guidance

The RPU has also created a variety of guidance notes that can be used alongside the Codes of Practice. These guidance notes give advice on a variety of topics and encourage a uniform approach to radiation health and safety across the University.
