Study abroad in Edinburgh


The University has a wide variety of accommodation largely within walking distance of the main University area in the city centre.


We guarantee an offer of university accommodation to:

  • All Study Abroad and International Exchange students coming for one semester or the full year
  • All full-year Erasmus Exchange students

We cannot guarantee to provide you with precisely the type of accommodation you might prefer.

Single semester Erasmus exchange students are not guaranteed University Accommodation, however please apply for Accommodation in case there is space available.


You should make your online application for your university accommodation once you have accepted your offer to study at Edinburgh.

You must accept your offer to study abroad in Edinburgh and apply for university accommodation by the following deadline:

  • 16 August - For students starting their studies in September  2017 (Semester 1 and Full Year students)
  • 30 November - For students starting their studies in January 2018 (Semester 2 students)

If you do not meet the deadline, we will not be able to guarantee an offer of university accommodation.

Move-in Date

The Move-in dates for university accommodation are:

  • Saturday 09 September - For September 2017 arrivals
  • Wednesday 10 January - For January 2018 arrivals

Private Housing

We are currently unable to guarantee accommodation to single semester students from the EU. You may therefore be looking for accommodation in the Private Sector. Unfortuately there are various scams operating in the Private Sector so please note the following advice and guidance.
