Entry is subject to a language proficiency test within the relevant subject area during the first lecture and at the discretion of the Course Organiser. Students can only take language courses suited to their language proficiency and may not take two courses in the same language at different levels in the same semester.

Course Summary

A course for students with no previous knowledge of Chinese, designed to introduce complete beginners to the four basic skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing in Chinese. Students with previous knowledge of Chinese language are not permitted and may be asked to withdraw from the course. This course runs in semester 1 and semester 2. On successful completion of this course, students will be eligible to take Foundation Chinese Language 2 (ASST07025) in semester 2.

Course Description

This course is suitable for complete beginners and aims to equip students with a very basic grounding in Chinese. This course is not suitable for students with previous knowledge of Chinese. This course is not available to native or near-native speakers of Chinese. If in doubt, contact the Course Organiser. Students who pass the course will have the option of taking Foundation Chinese Language 2 (ASST07025) in semester 2.
