Edinburgh wins partnership award in China
The University received an award at the 2022 British Business Awards in China earlier this month. Edinburgh was recognised for its partnership with Shanghai Jiaotong University (SJTU) and their work together on the UK-China Low Carbon College.
This partnership is led by ECCI and supported by academic experts from across the University including staff in the School of GeoSciences.
Congratulations and recognition are especially due to Grace Guan, Regional Director for East Asia, who along with her Executive Assistant, Zhao Wu, initiated and coordinated the successful application for this award on the University’s behalf.
This award is a very timely recognition of the University of Edinburgh’s commitment to sustainability, and to our strategic engagement with China

About the Awards
The British Business Awards are organised by the British Chamber of Commerce in China to recognise the success of British businesses operating in China, and Chinese businesses in the United Kingdom.
The awards ceremony took place earlier in early November in Beijing.
The 2022 British Business Awards include eight award categories: British Company of the Year; Chinese Investor in the UK; Diversity & Inclusion; Education Partnership; Entrepreneur of the Year; Innovation; Sustainability; and 50 Years of UK-China Excellence. These are key areas of UK-China collaboration – the 50 Years of UK-China Excellence Award also recognises
The achievements of British businesses in China since the two countries officially established ambassadorial relations in 1972.
Applications were evaluated by a panel of expert independent judges for each award category, with the judging process overseen by KPMG as the auditor, ensuring the process was fair, transparent and impartial.
Recognition of the University of Edinburgh’s track record on sustainability was a feature of its success in being awarded the Education Partnership Award.
The QS World University Ranking recently named the University of Edinburgh the best institution for sustainability in the UK. And last year, we have established the Edinburgh Earth Initiative, acting as a focal point for the university’s leading teaching and research on climate, supporting our global partnership to deliver climate solutions. Here in Shanghai, we continue to strengthen our collaboration with Shanghai Jiaotong University around the UK-China low carbon college, combining our research strength to tackle tomorrow’s greatest challenges.
