Seed funding

To ignite innovation through global partnership, we have developed a range of seed funding opportunities for academic staff.

Seed funding initiatives with our partner universities can catalyze groundbreaking ideas. Our initiatives aim to create opportunities for new collaborative work that will have a sustainable future.

Rice University Seed Fund

A Cooperation Agreement with Rice University was signed in April 2022 which included the creation of a seed fund.  The aim of the fund is to jump-start high-impact, cross-institutional collaborations across a range of research areas.

In this round of The Edinburgh-Rice Strategic Collaboration Awards (SCA), applicants are encouraged to submit funding proposals for innovative and sustainable programs built around collaborative research linking Edinburgh and Rice. Proposals should be sustainable in the long-term with a plan for engagement that includes leveraging external funding and publication outputs.

Each successful proposal may receive up to £15,000/$20,000 from each university for a total of £30,000/$40,000.

Funding is available from 1 August 2024 until 31 July 2025.

The deadline for project proposals is 30 March 2024.
