Work abroad

With the Erasmus+ Traineeship scheme, you can receive a grants to work, train or volunteer in Europe during or after your degree.

COVID-19 update

Semester 1 Erasmus+ Traineeships

In May we announced the cancellation of overseas exchanges, placements and field trips for Semester 1. The decision was taken in the best interests of student health, safety and wellbeing, which remains our top priority.

In accordance with updated guidance from the UK’s Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO), we are now offering flexibility to allow some students with courses that rely on a mandatory overseas element to travel in Semester 1. This only applies to students on degree programmes with a mandatory overseas component, who are required to undertake a work placement abroad as part of their degree (including for PhD research).

If you are required to go abroad as part of your degree in semester 1 2020/21, please contact the SWAY team to request permission to travel: sway@ed.ac.uk

Semester 2 Erasmus+ Traineeships

Placements due to start in semester 2 are expected to go ahead, provided that travel is permitted by the UK Government’s travel advice.
