Go Abroad

Virtual opportunities

Looking for an international experience this summer, without the travel? Find a virtual opportunity and apply for funding via the Go Abroad Fund.

The Go Abroad Fund is pleased to offer students financial support to fund virtual international experiences taking place in summer 2021.

Awards of up to £200 are available.

The fund is open to all students currently fully matriculated at the University of Edinburgh for the full academic year. This includes postgraduates, part-time students, and those who are graduating this summer. Visiting students are not eligible to apply for funding.

To be eligible for funding, your virtual short-term international experience must take place during the University summer holiday: 21 May - 20 Sept 2021.

How do I apply?

Applications were open during May and June and are currently closed.

Which activities will be considered?

The following virtual activities may be considered for funding, subject to the other eligibility criteria being met:

  • Conferences
  • Summer Schools
  • Language classes
  • Internships or Traineeships
  • Research
  • Volunteering

Your activity must have an educational dimension, but does not need to be related to your degree programme.  It must not be a mandatory or credit-bearing part of your degree here at Edinburgh.  It must have a formal cost of participation, which can be evidenced.

Below are some of the virtual summer opportunities we’re aware of which are hosted by our partner institutions, but there are many more out there so please feel free to find your own.

Happy planning and don’t hesitate to contact us on goabroad@ed.ac.uk if you have any questions!
