INCiTE Summer School
A 2-week, in-person, part-funded summer course in Southeast Asia. Work with colleagues from around the world while learning about intercultural competence, design thinking, social innovation and entrepreneurship.
The world is changing. The workplace is evolving. The way we find solutions must also be transformed. Prepare to think outside the box.
What will I do?
On the INCiTE Summer School, you will:
- Work with colleagues from around the world while learning about intercultural competence, design thinking, social innovation and entrepreneurship.
- Build a business model with your team to solve a global challenge, and pitch that solution to academics, entrepreneurs, community leaders, and corporate sponsors.
- Demonstrate in-demand skills for your CV.
- Join a multicultural student community from Australia, China, Scotland, Singapore, the Netherlands, and Cambodia.
- Participate in an extensive programme of social and cultural activities designed with you in mind.

Where will I go?
The INCiTE Summer School will be held on the campus of Duy Tan University in Da Nang, Vietnam.
What are the programme dates?
- Students arrive – 11 July 2024
- Summer School programme – 12-26 July 2024
- Students depart – 27 July 2024
Who can apply?
The INCiTE Summer School is open to University of Edinburgh students who fall under the Widening Participation categorisation. The applications team will work directly with the Widening Participation team to determine who is eligible for this opportunity.
If accepted to the programme, you will be joined by a diverse group of students from our INCiTE partner institutions.
The partner institutions are:
- University of Edinburgh
- University of Sydney
- University of Amsterdam
- Nanyang Technological University
- Jiangsu Education Services for International Exchange
- National University of Management in Phnom Penh, Cambodia
- Duy Tan University in Da Nang, Vietnam
What funding is available?
Successful applicants will be awarded funding to cover the programme costs in full and will have additional funding to go towards travel or other subsistence costs.
What are the global challenges?
The global challenges are outlined by the UN as the primary issues facing the world today.
The three broad global challenge categories for INCiTE are:
- Climate action, Environment and Resources
- Health, Wellbeing and Changing Societies
- Inclusive, Innovative and Reflective Societies
The Network for Intercultural Competence to facilitate Entrepreneurship (NICE) has developed a framework for addressing these challenges which you can use to help you decide which global challenge you would like to work on at the INCiTE Summer School.
The NICE programme is separate to INCiTE, but both of these experiences focus on similar themes.

How do I apply?
To apply, we will need some details on who you are and your preference of global challenge, as well as a 300 word personal statement on why you would be a good ambassador for the INCiTE Summer School, and how completing the course would benefit you and your future goals.
