In July 2019, prepare to think outside the box. With the INCiTE Summer School, you'll work on an online Intercultural Competence and Entrepreneurship course before spending two weeks in Suzhou, China, learning about design thinking, social innovation and entrepreneurship.

You'll build a business model with a team from around the world to solve a global challenge, and pitch that solution to academics, local business and community leaders, and corporate sponsors.

What funding is available?

The INCiTE Summer School programme fee is RMB 8650 (approx. £950). Go Abroad is able to subsidise the programme fee with a scholarship of £600 for all students accepted to the INCiTE Summer School, making the actual programme cost to the student £350.

Students are also encouraged to apply for the Go Abroad Fund. Further information about the fund and how to apply can be found here:

Additional funding is available on a means tested basis.

Students will be individually responsible for covering the cost of their flights, immunisations and visas.

What are the global challenges?

The global challenges are outlined by the UN as the primary issues facing the world in 2019.

They span key topics of health, climate change, diversity, energy, security, transport and food.

The Network for Intercultural Competence to facilitate Entrepreneurship (NICE) has developed a framework for addressing these challenges which you can use to help you decide which global challenge you would like to work on at the INCiTE Summer School.

The NICE project is separate to the INCiTE project, but both of these experiences focus on similar themes.

When is the Summer School?

Students will arrive at the Summer School on 7 July 2019 and depart on 20 July 2019.

Who can apply?

Undergraduate and Postgraduate students within all years of study from the INCiTE partner institutions are eligible to apply.

The partner institutions are:

  • University of Amsterdam
  • Nanyang Technological University
  • Jiangsu Education Services for International Exchange

How do I apply?

To apply, we will need some details on who you are and your preference of global challenge, as well as a 300 word personal statement on why you would be a good ambassador for the INCiTE Summer School, and how completing the course would benefit you and your future goals.
