Dr Morgera Invited to Join the CBD Liaison Group

The Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has invited Dr Elisa Morgera to join the Liaison Group on the international legal framework on geo-engineering and biodiversity, which will assess existing regulatory and monitoring mechanisms for geo-engineering - a variety of technologies for the large-scale deliberate manipulation of the atmosphere and the biosphere to counteract the effects of climate change.

The Liaison Group, comprising representatives of relevant international organizations and experts, will prepare a report to be submitted to the Convention's Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice, meeting in November 2011 in Montreal, Canada. The report will be published as part of the Convention's Technical Series, which aim to facilitate widespread and effective use of knowledge on conserving and using biological diversity sustainably.

Dr Elisa Morgera

Dr Elisa Morgera is Lecturer in EU Environmental Law and director of the LLM Programme in Global Environment and Climate Change Law. She has researched specifically in the area of international biodiversity law, environmental integration in the European Union external relations, international environmental governance, and corporate environmental accountability.
