The Global Environment and Society Academy (GESA) is a network of experts collaborating to develop innovative solutions for the world’s most challenging problems.
Led by Prof. Dave Reay and Prof. Elizabeth Bomberg. GESA exists as an interdisciplinary network bringing together staff, students and practitioners to enhance knowledge exchange, teaching and research. We have faculty and student members University wide with teaching responsibilities and research interests in environment and society.
What do we do?
We act as a hub for collaboration, highlighting the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to tackling global environmental challenges. This means we develop and encourage collegiality across the University and beyond; an approach that builds a vibrant Global community of talented people at the forefront of addressing environmental issues.
What can GESA do for you?
Via our Masters and Doctoral networks we bring together students from across the University to explore interdisciplinary perspectives and encourage collegiality. We have a very active community and an approachable Academic network . We aim to support student led projects and initiatives and can often introduce you to the right people.
Some of the initiatives you can get involved with as a GESA member include
- Reading Groups where you can hear the views of our expert speakers and Doctoral students can hone their facilitation skills
- Research development events
- Professional development workshops
- Explore internships or other opportunities supported by a GESA alumni network
- Opportunity to apply to the GESA Innovative Initiative Fund for projects or research activities
We'll be taking this opportunity to share our calendar of events with you, provide you with opportunities to meet others with similar interests, and to join our network, giving you everything you need to know about how to get involved in all things Envrionment and Society related at the University of Edinburgh this year.
