Global Environment and Society Academy launch event

The inauguration of the Global Environment and Society Academy (GESA) took place on 15 June 2011.

GESA aims to build a vibrant global community of talented people at the forefront of addressing issues arising from environmental change.

It is the third University of Edinburgh Global Academy - joining the Global Development Academy and the Global Health Academy. Together they form a global network of experts developing innovative solutions for the world’s most challenging problems.

The launch event brought together University staff and students to participate in the network. The keynote speaker was Prof Chuck Hopkins, UNESCO Chair in Education for Sustainable Development, York University, Toronto.

A second launch event will be held later in 2011 introducing GESA to national and global environmental networks.

Our aspiration is to be responsive to the changing face of global environmental problems. I hope GESA provides a way that enable us to make a significant positive impact to our changing world.
