Innovative data-driven Fellowships available
The University has announced a number of prestigious new fellowships for highly talented researchers focused on data-driven innovation.
The awards are aimed at early career academics from around the world, who have already begun to establish a reputation for top quality research in data sciences and artificial intelligence.
The Chancellor’s Fellowships in Data-Driven Innovation seek to help them develop their research to the highest international standards. They will support researchers, progressively training them in teaching and student development skills.
The application closing date for this scheme is 5pm on Monday 5th of November 2018.
Five-year Fellowships
Awards are for five years and it is anticipated that the majority of the Fellowships will move to a standard University academic open-ended contract.
As women and members of ethnic minorities are currently under-represented in posts at this level, applications from members of these groups are encouraged.
Individuals looking to return to research after a career break for family, caring or health reasons are also particularly welcomed.
Relocation support and Immigration Fee Assistance is available, including practical support for spouses, partners and families.
Academic development
The new Fellows will initially concentrate on research and innovation. They will be given a start-up package and training in industry engagement skills.
They will also be trained in teaching and student development skills and be expected to progressively take up this core academic activity.
Mentoring and development support will be available throughout, and beyond, their Fellowship provided by the Institute for Academic Development and senior staff in the respective schools and institutes.
Data-Driven Deal
The appointments are part of the University's commitment to the Edinburgh and South East Scotland City Region Deal’s Data-Driven Innovation (DDI) Programme. It is a partnership with Heriot-Watt University.
Announced in 2017, the Edinburgh and South East Scotland City Region Deal is a £1.1bn investment from the UK and Scottish governments, local authorities, universities and colleges.
The 15-year DDI Programme aims to establish the region as the data capital of Europe, attracting investment, fueling entrepreneurship and contributing to inclusive growth.
Research excellence
The University is a world-leading research institution, consistently ranked as one of the top 50 universities in the world.
In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF), Edinburgh was ranked fourth for research power (Times Higher Education, Overall Ranking of Institutions).
