Dr Simon Fraval joins the Global Academy of Agriculture and Food Security

The Global Academy of Agriculture and Food Security is delighted to welcome Dr Simon Fraval as a Train@Ed Research Fellow. Simon is an economist with over 10 years of experience in agricultural and food systems research and a Ph.D. from Wageningen University.

Focusing on environmental sustainability and human nutrition, Simon has worked to address food system challenges in Australia, the Netherlands, Central America, Indonesia and sub-Saharan Africa. Simon is collaborating closely with GAAFS senior scientists Alan Duncan, Jon Hillier, Geraldine McNeill, CGIAR senior scientist Mark van Wijk, and private sector partners. His fellowship seeks to harness existing data, frameworks and networks in pursuit of efficient and sustainable food production in low- middle-income countries. Sustainability, in this context, includes productivity, economic, human, social and environmental domains. As part of the University’s Data Driven Innovation program, Simon seeks to apply state-of-the-art remote sensing, artificial intelligence and Bayesian statistical methods in his research.
