New Agriculture Science Degree Programme Survey

We are currently developing a BSc (Hons) Agricultural Science degree programme, offered jointly with SRUC (Scotland’s Rural College), for 2018 entry.

We would like to hear your views on our proposed BSc (Hons) degree in Agricultural Science.   Our survey will only take about 5 minutes to complete and your answers will help inform the development of this exciting new programme.  Please access the survey here:

The course will explore: global agri-food systems; international agricultural policy and trade; natural, physical and social sciences underpinning agri-food systems; modern livestock and crop production systems, including aquaculture; global challenges, including population growth, food and environmental security, ‘one health/planetary health’; new agricultural technologies; research skills and leadership in agriculture.

Entry requirements:

SQA Highers

  • BBBB by end of S5 or BBBBB/ABBB (S4-S6), to include Biology or Chemistry and at least one of: Economics, Business Management, Geography, Environmental Science, Computer Science or Mathematics. Qualified applicants are advised to take Biology or Chemistry at Advanced Higher level where possible. National 5: Mathematics or Physics at grade B, English at grade C.

A Levels

  • BBB in one sitting, to include Biology or Chemistry and ideally one of: Economics, Business Studies, Geography, Environmental Science, Computing or Mathematics. GCSEs: English at grade C or 4 and Mathematics or Physics at grade B or 6.


  • Overall score of 30 points, including HL Biology or Chemistry, at Grade 6. Mathematics and/or Physics are recommended. SL: English at Grade 4 and Mathematics at Grade 4.

English Language Requirements

If English is not your first language, you will also need to meet the University’s required standard of English. If your English language qualification is not listed below, please contact our admissions team for guidance.

  • IELTS Academic: total 6.5 (at least 6.0 in each module)
  • TOEFL-iBT: total 92 (at least 20 in each module)
  • PTE(A): total 61 (at least 56 in each of the “Communicative Skills” sections; the “Enabling Skills” sections are not considered)
  • CAE and CPE: total 176 (at least 169 in each module)
  • Trinity ISE: ISE II with distinctions in all four components

This programme, offered jointly by The University of Edinburgh and SRUC (Scotland’s Rural College), will focus on improving the effectiveness and sustainability of agri-food systems to tackle global challenges of population growth, rapid urbanization, food and environmental security, diet and health.

The BSc (Hons) Agricultural Science programme will provide students with a foundation for a career as a future leader in research, policy, non-governmental organisations or the agri-food industry.

The Easter Bush Campus has benefited from over £100m of investment in our facilities.
