Save Charles Lyell's notebooks

Dr Gillian McCay

Statement from Dr Gillian McCay, Assistant Curator of the Cockburn Museum, University of Edinburgh

The acquisition of the Lyell notebooks will allow us to explore the personal thoughts and scientific ideas of one of the great thinkers of his day. Not only will this give a deeper insight into some of the most fruitful scientific collaborations of the 19th Century, it will also give us a unique opportunity to contextualise the collections we are already lucky enough to hold in the University Collections.
