Tribute funds and memorial collections
Ways to honour and continue supporting your loved one's favourite cause.
Funeral and memorial collections
It is becoming more popular to ask for donations to charity instead of flowers at funerals. Your funeral director will be pleased to organise this for you and send the money to us on your behalf. You will almost certainly raise even more money in memory of your loved one if you ask people to contribute through JustGiving. If you are planning to raise money to honour a loved one who has passed away, please get in touch and we can support you.
Tribute funds in honour of loved ones
Tribute funds are a wonderful way to remember and celebrate the life of your loved one in a positive and meaningful way. Some people like to donate on special occasions whilst others prefer to organise their own fundraising activities and events. There is no minimum donation or set length of time for tribute funds – each fund is as unique as the person it is named after.
Sandy Barclay Memorial Fund
The Sandy Barclay Memorial Fund at the University of Edinburgh helps fund early career researchers in the field of motor neurone disease research by supplying PhD students and Post-doctoral Fellows with a range of resources which are critical to their research efforts.
Every June the Ballater Charitable Chiels, along with Mrs Lindsay Barclay, organise a Fundraising Texas Scramble at Ballater Golf Club; the Chiels have raised over £174,000 in memory of Sandy Barclay since 2008.
Anne Forrest Fund for Oesophageal Cancer Research
The Anne Forrest Fund for Oesophageal Cancer Research at the University of Edinburgh was set up by the Forrest Family to raise funds to support research into the mechanisms, diagnosis and management of Oesophageal cancer.
The family have hosted various fundraising event in memory and celebration of Anne, the most popular of which is the annual Y Factor. This charity evening raises awareness of Oesophageal cancer and raises funds through ticket sales, a raffle and auction.
As well as the Y Factor, supporters have organised football tournaments, taken on liquid diets, taken part in races and have even walked on fire! This kind of help, along with much needed cash donations, has a direct and positive impact on the work of our researchers.
Thanks to the generous support of individuals, over £65,000 has been donated in memory of Anne.
Please contact Kerry on 0131 650 9221 or firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss setting up a tribute fund in memory of the person you would like to honour or to discuss a memorial collection.
