Fundraise Your Way

Virtual events

Are you looking to set yourself a fitness or exercise challenge, but don’t want to take part in an organised event? Virtual challenges give you the freedom to do what you want, when you want…

Being physically active is one of the most important things you can do for your health. It can

  • improve your mental health, self-esteem and mood
  • reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and some forms of cancer
  • help control your weight

The National Health Service (NHS) recommends adults should do some type of physical activity every day; adding up to at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity over the course of a week. If you want to be more active in 2020 whilst raising money for your chosen area of the University, why not set yourself a virtual challenge?

A virtual race or challenge is a fitness goal that requires you to complete a certain distance over a specified period of time. You might choose to run, cycle, walk, swim or rollerskate, and the distance is completely up to you! You could swim 5k over the course of a week, walk a marathon in month, or set a bigger goal like running 1000 miles in a year.

Try to choose a goal that is achievable but still challenging*, and make sure to track your activities and keep your supporters updated with your progress.

Once you’ve decided:

*Please make sure the type and intensity of your activity is appropriate for your level of fitness. Vigorous activity is not recommended for previously inactive people. If you are unsure, check with your General Practitioner (GP) before you start.
