The next call opens in January 2022, with a deadline of 24th February 2022.

The School of GeoSciences is operating demand management for this call. It will choose which and how many applications to support.

This year, the School is particularly interested in applications from the humanities and social sciences. It will have a selection preference for fellowships in this area.

However, submissions in all areas funded by this scheme will be considered.

Application process

The process for applying to this scheme through the School is below:

1

Please email the Research Office as soon as possible, noting your intention to apply. Your note of intention should indicate which research group(s) and institute(s) of the School you would like to be hosted by if you were successful.  You can consult the School website to help inform you about the institutes and groups.

2

The School encourages you to have an academic mentor to help you draft your proposal.

You should identify, contact, and have an agreement for an academic mentor to help you with your application. If you know this at the point of sending your intention to apply, please include this.

3

By 9:00 am 3rd December 2021, GMT – Send an academic CV and a two-page project plan with a note of your agreed academic mentor and your intended research group(s) and School research institute.

Your academic CV should concentrate more on your publications, outputs, and other activities and not spend too much page length on your employment history.

4

During December, a School panel will decide who will progress to the full proposal stage and provide all applicants with feedback.

Applicants will then continue to work with your mentor and the Research Office in developing your complete proposal. We will agree on another deadline during mid/late January to submit a full draft proposal.

5

During late January/early February 2022, we will have an agreed deadline to receive a copy of your complete draft application.

The School will try to organise reviews of your proposal and give more feedback to strengthen final applications. While the bulk of feedback will be on enhancing proposals, if significant issues are identified and cannot be solved before the deadline, the School may advise against submitting proposals.

6

There will be an internal deadline, probably a week before the formal submission deadline, where we will require you to submit the final version of your application for the last checks.

7

4pm, 24th February 2022, GMT - The deadline for application submission to the Leverhulme Trust.
