REF2021

Information about REF2021

The Research Excellence Framework (REF) is the system that British higher education councils operate for assessing the quality of research in UK higher education institutions. The assesments from REF are used in part to determine levels of funding awarded to the University of Edinburgh from the Scottish Funding Council.

For a full picture of the coming REF2021 exercise you can consult the REF2021 website, or the University of Edinburgh manages REF through the Governance and Strategic Planning (GaSP) department and they have their own REF2021 website.

REF assessments are organised broadly by subject area, and the School of GeoSciences will be submitting to REF2021 Unit of Assessment 7: Earth Systems and Environmental Sciences.
