About the programme

There's never been a better time to learn about the role of soils in sustaining life - find out more about our degree.

In 2015, the 68th UN General Assembly declared the International Year of Soils. This was an extremely exciting year for both soil scientists and students studying in this area. The aim was to raise awareness of the importance of soils for human life, support effective policies and actions, and advocate rapid collection of soil information and monitoring at both regional and global levels.

This aim is supported annually by World Soil Day (WSD), which is held on 5 December as a means to focus attention on the importance of healthy soil and advocating for the sustainable management of soil resources.
