The RSO organises various events from social networking to workshops and seminars. See what is coming up, below.
Focussed writing session
A structured writing session for people to come together but work on their own individual writing projects in a supportive and focused environment. The idea is that we get together, turn off the internet and concentrate on the writing that we find it difficult to make time for. The structure will be similar to the ones the IAD often hold (but you don't have to make the journey into town):
- 09:15 – 09:30 Introductions, writing warm-up, setting goals, planning
- 09:30 – 10:45 Writing (1hr 15min)
- 10:45 – 11:15 Break and review
- 11:15 – 12:45 Writing (1hr 30min)
It will take place in the Crewe Annex Teaching Lab 4 on Thursday 6th October from 09:15 to 12:45. Please let Alexis (email@example.com) know if you are interested in coming along. There is space for about 12 people. Depending on how much interest there is, we can organise further dates through a doodle poll.
WHAT TO BRING:
Laptop (fully charged if possible), power cable, any relevant papers or notes, memory stick, earphones (if you want).
We will bring some cake/biscuits for the mid-morning break (nom nom).
Date and place TBC: Travelogue Lunches
Geoscientists are often well travelled in the name of fieldwork, and we are lucky enough to visit some wonderful places. But we rarely get chance to show off our non-work related photos of these trips to our colleagues. Until now! Join us for a Travelogue lunch, sit back, enjoy your food, and watch a slide show of the fantastic views, interesting animals, unique structures and extra-curricular events. The setting is informal and your host will be on hand to answer any questions or discuss the slides in more detail. Please note: snacks and drinks will be provided, but please bring your own lunch. Do you have pretty pictures of fieldwork you want to show off? Contact us and volunteer to host a Travelogue!
Teaching Seminar- Firday 17th March (Venue TBC)
Do you enjoy teaching? Do you want to know more about teaching within the University and how you can get involved? Do you want to know what qualifications you can get whilst conducting your research? Or do you just want an excuse to get together with your colleagues after hearing about the teaching set-up in Geosciences?!
Well, look no further! Our next event will be a seminar on Friday 17th March 2017 focussing on Teaching and including a talk by GeoSciences Director of Teaching.
There will of course be drinks and an opportunity to catch up with your fellow researchers afterwards!
