The ION_BRU Nanopore User Group was founded in 2019 by Dr Amanda Warr, Dr Rebecca Watson, and Dr Bryan Wee of the University of Edinburgh. The aim of the group is to improve communication between researchers in Scotland using Nanopore sequencing and to help new users get started with the technology and understand potential applications. The group meets several times a year and has also hosted free hands-on workshops. Originally focused on the University of Edinburgh, the group has become popular throughout Scotland and is regularly attended by the Universities of Dundee, Aberdeen, St. Andrews and Glasgow, SASA, the Royal Botanical Gardens, the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, the National Museum of Scotland and industry. The ION_BRU Nanopore User Group is now considered to be the Scottish Nanopore User Group.

The Scottish Nanopore User Group meet four times a year to discuss Nanopore-based research in Scotland. Everyone is welcome, whether they use Nanopore frequently or are just curious. There is no charge to attend the meetings.

First meeting after the comeback in a lecture hall at Edinburgh Zoo

Now that there are more in-person events, we want to get back into the swing of ION_BRU meetings. This time we have selected a lecture hall at Edinburgh Zoo, with the help of ION_BRUer Dr. Kara Dicks and colleagues who will be hosting us there.

We are sure that you all have done exciting scientific work over the past few years, and now we want to hear about it. The meeting will be held on September 20, starting at 11 am and ending around 3 pm.

If you would like to give a talk, please contact us by August 15.
