EpiCrossBorders Symposium

EpiCrossBorders is an international and interdisciplinary three-year PhD programme focusing on epigenetics research at Helmholtz Zentrum Munich HMGU, Germany, and at the University of Edinburgh, UK.

The collaboration began in 2020 with a team of epigeneticists from the Wellcome Trust Centre for Cell Biology, the MRC Human Genetics Unit and the Centre for Regenerative Medicine.

EpiCrossBorders research areas include the study of single cells in relation to human health, quantitative approaches to the study of epigenetic phenomena, linking environmental stress and its effects on epigenetic processes, artificial intelligence to decipher and translate complex epigenetic data, and understanding the epigenetic mechanisms underlying health and disease.

The communities brought together in EpiCrossBorders pool their expertise not only in research, but also in a customizable training programme that covers scientific and professional education, bridges the gap between science and society, and provides targeted career development.

We are pleased to announce that we have recruited our first PhD students and are now hosting our inaugural symposium on April 22 at the MRC Human Genetics Unit, Institute Genetics and Cancer in to promote the programme so that we can help lay the foundation for a collaborative international Helmholtz-Edinburgh epigenetics community that links the two research centres and increases their potential, visibility, reach and influence.

EpiCrossBorders is a collaborative graduate school that thrives on exchange between the scientific communities at Helmholtz Munich and the University of Edinburgh. After the long delay by Corona, we are looking forward to meeting again in person. I look forward to a symposium where old friendships will be rekindled and new collaborations discussed and initiated.
