The Direct Debit guarantee

BACS - your customer rights

  • the Guarantee is offered by all banks and building societies that accept instructions to pay Direct Debits
  • if there are any changes to the amount, date or frequency of the Direct Debit the bank account holder will be notified 10 days in advance of their bank account being debited
  • if an error is made in the collection of the Direct Debit, by the University or the bank, the bank account holder is entitled to a full and immediate refund from their bank of the amount paid to the University
  • if a refund is given to the bank account holder to which he/she is not entitled then it must be repaid on request
  • a Direct Debit can be cancelled at any time by simply contacting the bank or building society - written confirmation may be required. Direct debit cancellation requests should also be sent to the University
