Instalment amounts and dates 2019/20

The amount of each instalment and the dates they are due are advised by letter.

The first instalment amount is one-half (50%) of the tuition fees charged for the programme of study undertaken. The remaining two instalments are one-quarter (25%) of the tuition fees.

The tuition fee rates along with additional and important information about fee charging is provided by Scholarships and Student Funding Services, Student Administration:

Undergraduate Tuition Fees

Postgraduate Tuition Fees

Any small difference in the amount paid for the first instalment and the actual amount due as a first instalment will be taken into account (and collected) in the next instalments.

New Students, new Direct Debit payers and returning students on a new programme of study

An instalment plan will be set up:

  • Once the first instalment has been paid in advance or when matriculating (but no later than the first instalment date shown on the direct debit timetable);
  • The direct debit mandate has been completed and validated by the mandate due date according to the direct debit timetable;
  • Your tuition fee invoice has been sent to your University student SMS e-mail account.

After the instalment plan has been set up a confirmation letter will be sent - to your SMS e-mail account if it is your bank details or by post to the person paying on your behalf - at least 10 days before the second instalment is due. The instalment letter will give the amounts and dates for the next two instalments. If the instalment letter is not received by the confirmation date on the payment timetable then contact: finance.helpline@ed.ac.uk / +44 (0) 131 651 5151 for more information.

Once the instalment letter has been sent, you will be able to view the instalment plan on My finance, MyEd. The instalment letter should be kept for future use as no further notification will be sent about Direct Debit dates and amounts unless there is an increase to the tuition fees charged.
