Supplements & Extensions

Funder Rules

Extensions to the duration of a project must be agreed by your department prior to contacting the funder. Requests for an extension should be made in writing to the funder before the end date of the project.

Supplement

This is when the funder provides supplementary funding for an existing project but the duration of the project remains as originally awarded. Supplements should be costed within Worktribe to show how the additional funds will be spent and approved in the usual way.

No Cost Extension

This is when the funder extends the end date of a project but no additional funding is provided. The PI must inform Research Grants when the funder confirms a no-cost extension. The position of staff employed from the grant must be clarified as there may be insufficient funds to extend their contracts in line with the new project end date.

Cost Extension

This is when the funder extends the end date of a project and provides additional funding for the extended period. The additional funding should be costed within Worktribe to show how the additional funds will be spent and approved in the usual way.

Written confirmation from the funder of a supplement or extended end date must be forwarded to your Research Grants Administrator (secured) who will update the project records and Worktribe.
