University hosted Exhibit B at Playfair Library
The performance exhibition explored themes of racism.
Beginning 9 August, South African artist Brett Bailey’s Exhibit B was on display at the Playfair Library in Old College. It was part exhibition, part performance, featuring 13 tableau vivant installations.
The work focused on the late 19th and early 20th Century Scramble for Africa and the subsequent European pseudo-scientific racial theories that developed.
The exhibit featured performers in a series of display cases, drawing on the 'human zoos' concept that was popular during the time.
Exhibit B was on display at Playfair Library Hall from 9-25 August. The performance took approximately 25 minutes to walk through.
A beautifully arranged and produced show, Exhibit B feels like compulsory viewing.
