As part of the Edinburgh Art Festival, the Talbot Rice Gallery housed a non-thematic exhibition, which aimed to present a thought-provoking encounter with political and philosophical ideas, poetry and music, conceptual art and technological visions of the future.

Participating artists included Ross Birrell, Keith Farquhar, Alec Finlay, Michelle Hannah, Ellie Harrison, Shona MacNaughton, Andrew Miller and Craig Mulholland. The exhibition presented a diverse range of installation works, including two full size streetlights, a breakfast bar and a custom-made bowling alley.

Counterpoint was part of Generation, a series of exhibitions and events throughout 2014 to celebrate the last 25 years of contemporary art in Scotland.
