Aerosol cans are designed to contain liquid or gas, packed under pressure with a propellant. Full or partially filled cans could explode if exposed to heat or punctured, for example, as a result of compacting in a waste vehicle or compactor.

Aerosols should not be pierced or squashed before disposal.

Process

  1. Can contain(ed) hazardous substance (including medicines) - dispose as chemical waste.

  2. Can not spent - dispose as chemical waste.
  3. Empty can - remove nozzle and place in Dry Mixed Recycling bin (orange lid).
  4. Single-use canister e.g. camping gas canister - collect in box and contact Waste Office to arrange uplift.
