Students visit Easter Bush construction site

In October 2019, 53 Civil Engineering students from the University's School of Engineering visited the Advanced Computing Facility construction site at the Easter Bush campus.

The students, who are all in their third year of the course, visited the site in two groups and were hosted by the project’s main contractor Robertson Construction.

Simon Smith, Senior Lecturer in Construction & Project Management said “The Advanced Computing Facility construction project is a small but very well formed and organised site that has allowed our students understand key issues that construction companies face when undertaking their operations.

“It is useful for all Civil Engineering Students to see live construction sites. On this occasion they were able to learn more about the project generally; understand the contractor’s Safety Management processes, see the site activities which include the contractor’s use of construction plant and equipment as well as how they organise their activities. Robertson Construction were very welcoming and pleased to have the opportunity to show off their very well run project.”

The Advanced Computing Facility is due for completion in 2020 and will extend the existing Advanced Computing Facility. The project is a key part of the Data Driven Innovation (DDI) Programme that forms an integral part of the Edinburgh and South East Scotland City Deal investment proposition.
