General & Academic English courses
This programme is aimed mainly at those who wish to improve their English language before starting a degree course in the UK. It would also be useful for students with a general background who wish to improve their English in a university setting.
If you are applying for the year round programme and have the intention of possibly continuing onto the summer pre-sessional programme, please note that due to Academic Progression requirements you may need to return to your home country to submit your Tier 4 visa application. Preparation for university entry
When studying English in preparation for university entry, it is essential to complete at least the minimum recommended preparation period, which depends on the IELTS score required by your College for acceptance onto your particular programme of study.
Foundation and Pathway Programmes
The University's foundation and pathway programmes provide opportunities for talented students whose high school qualifications are not accepted for direct entry to an undergraduate degree, or whose first language is not English, to access degree programmes within humanities, social science, science and engineering.
