6 Week Pre-sessional English Programme
The ESAP course you select depends on your academic specialism.
Please note, applications for summer 2023 will open on Monday 23rd January 2023.
For entry to the 6-week Pre-Sessional, students must:
- Be 18 years of age or over.
- Hold a conditional offer of a place on an appropriate University of Edinburgh PGT degree programme
- Hold a conditional offer of a place on an appropriate University of Edinburgh PGR degree programme if applying for English for Arts and Humanities (EAH), English for Education and Social Sciences (EESS) or English for Science, Technology and Medicine (ESTM) (please note: although we can accept applications from PGRs, students should be aware that the course is mainly designed for PGT applicants)
- Have either completed Pre-Sessional EGAP or have the required language test scores for ESAP entry which are:

*IMPORTANT INFORMATION - PLEASE READ* The health and safety of staff and students throughout the pandemic remains the University of Edinburgh’s priority. As such, this year’s Pre-sessional English programme has been designed to facilitate safe delivery of its high-quality teaching. The 6-week English for Specific Academic Purposes Courses will be taught as an in-person programme. Applicants will be expected to travel to the UK in order to attend this programme.
Throughout the pandemic, the University of Edinburgh has followed Scottish Government advice and it will continue to do so ahead of the start of the Pre-sessional English programme this year. Our priority will remain student and staff safety and wellbeing and we will update applicants of the Pre-sessional programme of any changes throughout their application process.
EBM aims to develop and improve your confidence and academic language & literacy skills to a sufficient level to bridge the gap between your entry language level and that required to participate successfully in a range of Business School Masters Programmes. It further aims to raise your awareness of what you should expect on their programme and of what is expected of you by the Business School.
