Keeping Youth Away from Crime: Searching for Best European Practices

The European Union has shown continuing concern for children’s rights. These rights are enshrined in the Charter of Fundamental Rights and the Treaty of Lisbon. Article 24 of the Charter addresses the need to prioritise the best interests of the child and the right of children to protection and care.

Project aims

Within this context, the overall aim of this project is to find, identify and apply best practice in work with children at risk of becoming involved in crime. CREID and the Centre for Research on Families and Relationships http://www.crfr.ac.uk will work together with partners in the Netherlands, Belgium, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia to:

Promote the exchange of ideas about youth justice in western Europe and the Baltic states of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia
Develop a common understanding of the implementation of the rights and values recognised in the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights
Find and implement practical, innovative, inclusive approaches to youth justice.
