ESRC seminar 3: Mainstreaming equality and diversity in particular settings and contexts

The seminar series will give policy-makers, academics and activists the opportunity to discuss the key issues of mainstreaming equality in different parts of the UK and consider the wider picture in Europe and North America.

ESRC Seminar 2: Mainstreaming equality and diversity in different national contexts: Implications for policy and practice

This seminar will address a key idea underpinning mainstreaming, that universal principles of equality apply to all groups. However, there are long-running debates over the emphasis placed on commonality and difference. Specific groups may face particular barriers in achieving equality, and therefore different equality strategies may be required. Finally, there are competing understandings of equality, which may be defined in terms of access, procedure or outcome.
